Depart from UK on an overnight flight arriving at approximately 06:00 the following day in Sao Paulo

Aug 22: Connect with a short flight to Brasilia. On arrival you will be met and transferred to the Hotel Brasilia Palace’ (breakfast only)

Aug 23: After breakfast you will fly to Barreiras and transfer on to your camp, a drive of about 4-5 hours.

Aug 24 - 27: Four full days of private guided wildlife activities in Brazil's equivalent of the African savannah. This is the prime habitat for the world’s tallest and most elegant wild canid, the endangered Maned Wolf of Brazil and Bolivia. Our specialist camp offers the best chance anywhere of photographing the maned wolf, with frequent great viewing at distances of 10-20 metres of this spectacularly graceful top predator. Photographically the savanna woodland wilderness is very scenic, with 1,000-foot-high red-rock cliffs as a backdrop too. Our camp also features other unique wildlife spectacles, notably hide facilities for large flocks of Hyacinth Macaws in perfect light and natural setting for photography, and the world-famous TV stars—the hammer-rock-wielding Bearded Capuchin Monkeys. It is also possible to encounter giant anteater and many other species in this remote wilderness setting.

This is the section of our Brazil photography safari where we concentrate on the semi-nocturnal species to be found in and around the wetlands of the northern Pantanal.  Our ranch location offers wonderful opportunities to encounter giant anteater, tapir, ocelot, crab eating racoons and foxes, and a host of other mammal and bird species. We may spot our first caimans here and Neotropical otter is a possibility too.

Aug 28: Transfer to Barreiras airport for the flight to Brasilia and overnight at Hotel Brasilia Palace (breakfast included)

Aug 29: After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport to connect with your short flight to Cuiaba.  On arrival you will be met by your private expert naturalist and there will be some time to pick up water and other snacks and comfort items before driving south towards the famous Transpanteneiara road.  The second half of this journey marks the starting point of the unsealed road and our Pantanal wildlife viewing opportunities.  As well as hundreds of birds, caimans and maybe even the odd Neotropical Otter, we will enjoy the change of scenery as the Pantanal landscape, dominated by large ranches, comes into view.  Night-time drive (with spotlight) looking for Crab eating Racoons and Foxes, Anteaters and lesser cats such as Ocelot (rare!). Overnight at  ‘Pousada Alegre’ (all meals included)

Aug 30: Full day - very early morning safaris looking for Giant Anteater and Tapir. Late afternoon safaris followed by nocturnal drive looking for wildlife such as Ocelot and crab eating Foxes. Throughout the day you also have opportunities to walk, take gentle horse-back safaris or explore areas by safari vehicle.  Overnight ‘Pousada Alegre’

The northern Pantanal is the best place in the world to encounter jaguar, and on this Brazil photography safari we will go all out to find and photograph these beautiful, powerful predators.  Often lounging on the banks of the river, keeping cool and scouting for prey, this mighty cat alone is worth the journey.  It is also at home in the water, and generally not phased by the presence of humans in boats, so often presents unique and special photographic possibilities.

We have chartered an entire 12-person boat for our small group of 4-6 guests, so each photographer will have unfettered access to both sides.  As a private charter we can be on the water and ready to begin our photography at first light each morning.  Most tours return to their base for the middle of the day, but as we are a private group, we have the option to continue exploring the backwaters, fortified by a packed lunch, while looking for jaguar and appreciating the countless other mammals, birds and reptiles that call the Panatanal home.

Aug 31Early morning safari close to the ‘Pousada Alegre’ lodge before driving 4-5 hours (with stops) to the end of the Transpantaneira road where check in to the best lodge on the Cuiaba River. We should arrive in time time to stretch our legs, explore the grounds to find the resident macaws and toucans and have dinner before heading for bed before our first big dayon the water  tomorrow! Overnight at ‘Hotel Pantanal Norte’ (all meals included)

Sep 01 - 04: Four full days of morning and afternoon small group boat safaris in one of the best locations in the world to see Jaguars. There is also a chance to photograph Tapir, Giant River Otters, Black Howler Monkeys, Iguana, lots of Caimans and some beautiful birds.  As mentioned above, we may choose to take a packed lunch and remain out on the river Cuiba throughout the day.  If we choose to return to the lodge there are many photographic opportunities in and around the grounds.

Sep 05: After breakfast you will be transferred 5-6 hours back to Cuiaba to connect with your flight to Sao Paulo, GOL1425 departs 17:05 and arrives at 20:25. On arrival you will take the free shuttle bus to the ‘Pullman Sao Paulo’ (breakfast included)

Sep 06: Morning to relax before taking the shuttle to the international terminal to connect with your onward flight, bringing your incredible Brazil photography safari to an end... time to start editing up those wonder shots!
