Birding Heaven In Northern Greece
Lake Kerkini in the northern Serres region of Greece is one of the most important sites for migratory birds in Europe, lying along routes to the Aegean, Balkans, Black Sea and Hungarian Steppes. The lake and it's mountainous surrounds are designated a Nature 2000 area, wetland under RAMSAR convention and Important Bird Area.

Our Conservation, Climate & Communities Commitment In Action
Lake Kerkini is an internationally respected eco-destination where - unusually - human intervention has actually enhanced the natural habitat. The local people nurture the wildlife present here, understanding how important it is both for conservation of biodiversity and for their economy.
We will support this local economy by staying in a family-run guesthouse, and eating in local small restaurants which use locally sourced products. We also rent a traditional 'plave' boat for our lake safaris, which helps to diversify the income of the region's fishermen.
In line with our environmental commitment we will take no internal flights, and make only minimal use of vehicles to transfer between bird sites, taking leisurely strolls in the evening to and from our dinner venues.
January 19 - fly to Thessaloniki & road transfer to guesthouse in time for dinner
January 20: dawn and sunset shoots from our boat with time to explore the area in between
January 21: dawn and sunset shoots from our boat with time to explore the area in between
