'Kenya’s Masai Mara is a wildlife photographer’s dream - nowhere on Earth can match the safari experience we find here, especially during the great migration. The action ranges from lightning speed cheetah kills, and the frenzy of migration river crossings, to witnessing the birth of a topi foal – we’ve seen it all on this trip!'

our safaris support conservation and communities
On this classic Kenyan experience we are likely to encounter all of Africa’s Big Five, plus the abundance of prey species the migration brings and a dazzling array of birds. And on this bespoke photography safari we have no crowds to contend with in Mara North Conservancy, and no constraints on our time with each species. This allows us to observe their way of life, explore appropriate photographic techniques and craft unique shots which capture the essence of each animal, their behavior and interactions.
Location, Location, Location + Award-Winning Safari Camps
Wildlife abounds in the protected surrounds of Mara North Conservancy, a particularly unspoiled part of the Mara ecosystem, and as residents of the conservancy we will have exclusive access to it. In our experience the Mara conservancies offer a far more rewarding photographic experience than the National Reserve, with no crowds and a much higher quality and frequency of wildlife and photographic opportunities. Mara North will be our home for 7 days and nights of wildlife photography heaven.
However, there is one spectacle that we wouldn’t want to miss: the great migration crossing the Mara River. So to get the best of both worlds, we will move into the heart of the main reserve for our final three days, specifically to seek out and photograph this spectacular event. Crocodile and hippo lurk in wait for the unwary and unlucky amongst the thousands of wildebeest and zebra, and we will stay at Serian Nkorombo camp situated right on the banks of the Mara River, where migration crossings happen regularly right on the doorstep.
During our time in Kenya we will also have the chance to get up close to macro subjects on walking safaris, and create dramatic images of wildlife and the stars at night, as our tour leader and tutor Trai Anfield takes us through techniques to meet every photographic opportunity.
Try Your Hand at Wildlife Videography
As a BBC film-maker and presenter Trai also offers you the unique opportunity to learn wildlife filming techniques, with optional tuition in how to produce and shoot video sequences. As Trai says 'There’s far more to wildlife film-making than just switching your camera to video mode! We'll look at how to storyboard, shoot for the edit, and produce wildlife films that will really impress on your return home'
Don't Worry, We Know What Photographers Need
With additional luggage allowance on Mara flights, award-winning accommodation and guiding at Alex Walker's Serian camps, off road access in the conservancy, vehicles kitted out with bespoke photography platforms, and only three photographers per vehicle, this is Kenyan photography safari at its absolute finest.
How Your Enlightened Photography Safari Supports Conservation and Communities
'In 20 years, if nothing changes, there will be no lions left in Kenya'
Niels Mogensen, Mara Lion Project
Enlightened Media is proud to support the work of Niels Mogensen at the Mara Lion Project. In line with our ethical policy we have produced and donated two short documentary films which Niels uses every day in his work to raise both awareness and funding for lion conservation.
When commitments have allowed, Niels has joined us for an evening to give a unique insight into his work, which is vital to the survival of lions here in Kenya and throughout the world, and we will invite him again this year.
Please view the videos below - it is only through your support of our photographic safaris that we can continue to support conservation work.
Staying in Mara North Conservancy also supports local people. The conservancy consists of land leased from local Maasai families. They receive a fair rent for their land and also benefit from developments in infrastructure including diversified employment, improved healthcare and education, womens' empowerment, clean water provision and sanitation. In return they agree to live and limit cattle grazing within the boundary of the conservancy so that they are less likely to come into conflict with the wildlife that thrives here.
Includes all Kenyan transfers and internal flights with extra baggage allowance, all reserve fees, photography tuition, day/night game drives and walks with leading Masai guides, award-winning accommodation, all inclusive cuisine and unlimited soft drinks, water, beer, house wine and local spirits, bush laundry, farewell lunch and visit to Nairobi's Rothschild giraffe centre.
Excludes international flights, personal travel insurance, visa, gratuities.
