SHOMPOLE

Flamingos Lake Magadi 1.jpg
Chopper.jpeg

We begin our super-creative photography safari with a 3 night stay at Shompole, a true hidden gem of Kenyan wilderness.  The major attractions for photographers here are aerial photography over the vivd soda lakes and flamingos, and a new night hide for 24/7 photographic possibilities!

Our stay begins on a privately chartered scenic flight from Nairobi, including views over Lake Magadi. Building on this experience we have included a doors-off helicopter flight for incredible aerial photography over one of these stunningly coloured soda lakes, complete with flamingos flying over the surreal patterns.  The lake colours and flamingo populations change constantly, depending on the season and prevailing conditions, so every flight yields unique photographic results.

During the day here you will photograph on game drives and bush walks, with wonderful bird life and the possibility of approaching Big Five animals on foot with your experienced expert guides to ensure safety.

Then comes the overnight hide, which is a new and exciting addition to the offer here, and opens up the hours of darkness for truly dramatic, original and creative photography.  With a flexible lighting system, openings on multiple sides of the hide, and no glass to spoil shots with reflections, the creative options here are only limited by your imagination, and the experience is intense!

Naboisho Predators

NABOISHO

We continue our epic photographic journey in spectacular style, getting up close and personal with the predators of Mara Naboisho conservancy.  Trai runs regular fundraiser safaris here for the Mara Predator Conservation Programme, so is well acquainted with each lion pride and many of the individual cheetahs and leopards in the area.

Naboisho has the huge advantage of being a conservancy, meaning visitor numbers are strictly limited and we are free to leave the tracks to approach sightings up close.   In addition we can undertake bush walks, night drives and astrophotography sessions as we don't have to be back in camp by sundown.  All this freedom makes a massive difference, elevating your photographic experience.  And it's not just predators here - Naboisho is bursting with life!

Migration Mara River Crossings

MIGRATION

Mara & Talek Rivers, Maasai Mara National Reserve

Our final destination, the Maasai Mara National Reserve, needs no introduction: the annual great wildebeest and zebra migration here is widely regarded as the pinnacle of wildlife viewing in Africa.

This is where countless images of tens of thousands of wildebeest crossing the Mara River originate, and this age-old spectacle is every bit as exhilarating now as it has been throughout time.

The crossings are not the only thrill here though - predators come from all over to hunt out the weakest amongst the herds, and scavengers gather to clean up the carnage.  Amidst the excitement there are many chances to try more creative photographic techniques for story-telling and impact, such as slow exposures, panning and also videography.
