Spring is coming our way, and as the floodwater recedes, bulbs are poking through, there are patches of blue sky outside my window and even my rhubarb is making an early bolt in the front garden.
It's got me looking forward to all that's best about British wildlife for the months ahead. I've got some awesome projects coming up involving British wildlife.
Firstly I'll be Chair of the Board of the new British Wildlife & Conservation Experience in Northumberland, which is currently in the planning stages and will be an amazing conservation and education resource when it comes to fruition in the next couple of years. Watch this space for news and updates.
This year too I shall be running Wildlife Video Pioneers workshops for dslr photographers who want to add a new dimension to your creativity. The workshops cover all aspects of producing - and even presenting - your own dslr wildlife documentary. The six workshop members will work together with me as a production team to produce an exclusive short wildlife film with all our names on the credits.
This Video Pioneers week will be the ultimate Scottish Highland Wildlife workshop, based at the magnificent Aigas Field Centre in the heart of rural Inverness-shire 7-14 June.
Pine marten, beaver, otter, red squirrel, badger and many deer grace the wilds of the estate, osprey strafe the loch for fish to feed their young, and the air is alive with woodland birds. Golden eagle, sea eagle and Merlin frequent the skies too, while common and grey seal and bottle nosed dolphin feast on migrating salmon in the nearby Beauly Firth. It really is the ultimate place to experience the best of British wildlife.
Add in accommodation in comfortable timber lodges, and fine dining in the exquisite baronial dining room of Aigas House, the home of naturalist and author Sir John Lister-Kaye, and it promises to be an immensely enjoyable week of wildlife filming.
I will be away filming and photographing around the globe too, but sometimes the most exciting and inspiring times are surprisingly close to home!
